Sheffield Yorkshire Terriers
Before You Buy A Yorkie
                                                "TEA CUP YORKIE"
First off you need to know there is no such thing. "Breeders" who say this are either lying or are breeding two tiny yorkies for this so called trait. The yorkshire terrier should weigh between 4 - 7 pounds full grown. The tiny ones tend to have a lot of health problems and are a lot of work and heartache. I only reccomend a very small yorkie to someone who is retired or works from home. If after plenty  of research, you think a tiny yorkie is right for you. I reccomend buying one around 6 months old so you will truly know how big they are going to be and hopefully they are healthy and have gotten over any problems with blood sugar or vaccaines. (A rule to follow is to double weight at twelve weeks old).

                       Finding A Reputable Breeder
I think finding the right breeder is the most important thing you can do when purchasing any dog. We are out there, you just have to look a little further than the newspaper. Also don't think just because they have a nice website they are doing right by their dogs. There are three types of breeders  - A puppy mill breeder is breeding for profit and only for profit. They tend not to take care of their animals and are only in it for the money. Frequently they have puppies that are not well socialized and may have health problems. - Pet store puppies are most likely from a puppy mill. Don't buy from a pet store!!  Next is the backyard breeder - this is a person who thinks breeding sounds fun and wants to make a little bit of money. They are probably great  people, with the best of intentions.  However, there is more to breeding than putting random dogs together in hopes of producing quality offspring. Last but not least is the breeder who is a hobbiest or someone who has made a career of breeding. They have studied their breed and have gone to great lengths to improve the breed. They spend countless hours awake taking care of sick dogs and puppies. Most  have missed at least one  birthday waiting on the birth of a litter. They will insist you call in the middle of the night if you have a problem or concern.  This breeder has studied many pedigrees trying to find the right stud for their girl they just spent nine months finishing on the show circut. There are more pee stains on their carpet than they would like to admit and don't even mention the money they have spent on vets and grooming products.

I have heard this many times and all I can say is I am not selling you a show dog. Why would you spend the same, if not more, on a dog of poor or mediocre quality If you do decide on me as your breeder no one will ever have to ask "Is that a Yorkie?" I am breeding for the yorkshire terrier standard. Just remember when it comes to yorkies you get what you pay for. This is an eleven to fifteen year commitment, do you really want to go with someone who doesn't know or care about the breed. Where health problems can arise from bad breeding practices?

                                            Do Your Homework!
Go to the library or buy a book! It is well worth the expense to help you decide on you next forever family member.  ytca.org  is a great web site to start with. I am not a member at this time, but there is great info on this website
